Tried to read Kierkegaard the other day...

The human being is spirit. But what is spirit? Spirit is the self. But what is the self? The self is a relation which relates to itself or that in relation to itself is relating to itself. The self is not the relation but the relation's relating to itself. A human being is a synthesis of the infinite and the finite, of the temporal and the eternal, of freedom and necessity. In short, a synthesis. A sythesis is a relation between two terms. Looked at in this way a human being is not yet a self.
-Soren Kierkegaard in The Sickness Unto Death

back when I was in university, I loved Kierkegaard. Now that Davey is four months old, I decided I could start devoting some time to reading again. So I decided to start with an old favorite. Yeah right. I'm going to blame pregnant brain because I sure don't want to think that I've lost all power of reasoning in the 5 years since I graduated.

Oh yea, and the book? I decided on Jane Austen instead.
